Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Does Shaftcrafters install home elevators? No, Shaftcrafters finishes the shaft or hoistway so that the elevator systems provider can directly install their elevator systems.  Shaftcrafters works with a number of the local suppliers of home elevator systems and they often refer Shaftcrafters to their clients.

  2. Why don't elevator system suppliers finish the shaft? A few do but most focus only on the elevator system installation. Those that do tend to be for homes where the shaft is already roughed in and there is only a small amount of remaining work. The more work required to finish the shaft, the more likely it is an elevator system supplier will recommend it be finished by Shaftcrafters. Even system suppliers who typically do their own shaft will call Shaftcrafters for the more demanding situations.

  3. Why do elevator system suppliers recommend Shaftcrafters? Because Shaftcrafters focusses on shaft completion and does not generally do other residential contracting work. Other contractors might do shafts when their workload is light and not when they are busy. Shaftcrafters works closely with the elevator systems supplier to deliver a shaft that perfectly meets their requirements and building code. And Shaftcrafters does the really demanding jobs such as building exterior shafts from scratch with no prior rough-in or making shafts or openings for pneumatic/vacuum tubular elevators and free standing glass elevators.

  4. Why should I call Shaftcrafters for a quote? Shaftcrafters promptly evaluates the shaft completion requirements, typically within a few days of any request, and is expert in choosing the best locations for a shaft. We are consistently competitive because we are shaft experts.

  5. How much does a shaft installation cost? Standard interior shafts can cost from $9k to $19k for completion depending on the extent of work needed. Exterior shafts typically cost between $35k and $48k. Elevator system costs are typically in the upper $20k to lower $30k range for a standard cab without significant decorative features.
